Under the Roof tops of Paris (1930)

Plot:  A Street Musician, his close friend, and a small time gangster all vie for the affections of a pretty Romanian girl.
Stars:  Albert Préjean, Pola Illéry

A charming, engaging movie, made during the transition to sound, its 1/2 silent film, 1/2 talkie. There's a minimum of dialog and there's constant music on the soundtrack. I liked how "real" and heartfelt the movie was. Despite the comic shenanigans, the characters and situations seemed realistic. OTOH,  the story is slight and the characters aren't that memorable. While its somewhat clever and has laugh-out-loud moments - its not at the level of Rene Clair's other famous movies: "Le Million" or "À Nous la Liberté." If those films were  home runs, "Roof Tops" is a stand-up Triple.
